Save the corporations… I mean children

When Save the Children chose to bestow the Global Legacy Award on Tony Blair, the charity inadvertently revealed the dark underbelly of NGO activity.

When Tony Blair received the Global Legacy Award last week from Save the Children, an organization dedicated to “transforming children’s lives,” it seemed like a bad joke to many people. This, after all, was a man who had been willing to use fabricated evidence to launch an illegal war against Iraq during his time as Britain’s Prime Minister, a conflict that irrevocably “transformed” the lives of thousands of children by killing them. These days Blair is advising the new military regime in Egypt and doing a sideline in Saudi oil kickbacks. We don’t hear too much about children in either of those countries, but I’m willing to bet that living under military or aristocratic dictatorship isn’t too good for the little mites, especially when, as is the case with Saudi Arabia, child marriage is nothing unusual.

Masai Evicted for Dubai “Royals” Playground

Around 40,000 Masai people living in part of Tanzania bordering the Serengeti national park are to be evicted to make way for a playground for a foreign “royal” family. Dubai, a city built by slaves and ruled by a bunch of decadent despots, has a lot of poverty, but also some of the richest people in the world live or operate from there. They want a place to play at being hunters, and the Masai land is ideal for them.

See more in this RT article.

It may be difficult to believe that anyone would have the sheer arrogance to evict 40,000 people from their homeland just for entertainment, but if you look into the Dubai Royals, and how their pleasure dome has been built, you’ll start to understand.

Western NGO workers live luxuriously while Ebola orphans left to fend for themselves in Liberia

Western aid agencies areusing the plight of Africa’s Ebola orphans to fund a lavish lifestyle in $800-a-night hotels and leaving the children to fend for themselves, according to Liberia’s development chief.

Children who were forced to watch their parents die and were then shunned by their community are being ignored while useless facilities are being built, according to Julia Duncan-Cassell, Liberia’s minister in charge of saving the orphans.

She accused the agencies of handing out $235 daily allowances that are higher than her salary – and that the money invested is wasted on expensive hotels and driving around in big cars.

Meanwhile thousands of orphans have been abandoned to the care of neighbours and relatives who are struggling to find money and food to support them.

UPDATE 16 October: WWF has responded angrily to Survival’s campaign. Read the facts behind the headlines.

Survival International, the global movement for tribal peoples’ rights, has uncovered serious abuses of Baka “Pygmies” in southeast Cameroon, at the hands of anti-poaching squads supported and funded by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

The Baka are being illegally forced from their ancestral homelands in the name of “conservation” because much of their land has been turned into “protected areas” – including safari-hunting zones.

Rather than target the powerful individuals behind organized poaching, wildlife officers and soldiers pursue Baka who hunt only to feed their families.

WWF shares culpability for mass killing of orangutans

pandaleaks.org

TOrangutan presshe WWF raises money across the globe to save the orangutan. The organization does, in fact, act to preserve existing national parks that are home to the likeable, funny-faced apes. But at the same time, the WWF – a strong proponent of plant-based energy production worldwide – is aiding its agribusiness partners in annihilating much larger areas of rainforest in the name of sustainability.

A years’-long globe-spanning investigative journey took journalist and filmmaker Wilfried Huismann to the Indonesian part of Borneo. There he discovered that in Central Kalimantan alone the company Wilmar International, one of the world’s biggest palm oil players, had already cleared almost 200,000 hectares of rainforest using ruthless slash-and-burn methods. In 2007 the WWF concluded a “Memorandum of Understanding” with Wilmar, pledging support for the company’s Central Kalimantan palm oil operations, which the WWF deems “sustainable”. Kenyan doctors find anti-fertility agent in UN tetanus vaccine

Kenya’s Catholic bishops are charging two United Nations organizations with sterilizing millions of girls and women under cover of an anti-tetanus inoculation program sponsored by the Kenyan government.

According to a statement released Tuesday by the Kenya Catholic Doctors Association, the organization has found an antigen that causes miscarriages in a vaccine being administered to 2.3 million girls and women by the World Health Organization and UNICEF. Priests throughout Kenya reportedly are advising their congregations to refuse the vaccine.

And an article from greenmed.info goes deeper, examines how mainstream media are largely ignoring it while the few who are not are generally dismissing it as nonsense (without any evidence to back up the claim) and then looks into the long and scandalous historical background  of vaccine experiments on humans in places like Africa.

New Book Blows the Whistle on WWF

The World Wide Fund for Nature has been the subject of much controversy since its inception. Now a new English translation of a book by German author Wilfried Huismann, PandaLeaks – The Dark Side of the WWF, presents two years of on-the-ground investigative research, exposing their unethical and hypocritical tactics to a much greater depth than before. The book has been published in spite of a massive campaign of threats and a series of lawsuits from its subject.

The book accuses WWF of cosying up to the very corporations it should be challenging, such as Monsanto, Coca-Cola, Shell, HSBC, Cargill, BP, Alcoa and Maine Harvest. The Author says that “WWF is a willing service provider to the giants of the food and energy sectors, supplying industry with a green, progressive image… On the one hand it protects the forest; on the other it helps corporations lay claim to land not previously in their grasp. WWF helps sell the idea of voluntary resettlement to indigenous peoples,”

Trees Make Rain VII – Even the scientists are beginning to figure it out.

In a Guardian article we’re warned that the “Amazon rainforest is losing ability to regulate climate

Despite ‘careful’ phrasing, this article and the research it refers to is very useful support for the notion that we need more forests if we are to survive here for much longer. Big Pharma and its mainstream ‘medicine’ lackeys can make all kinds of definitive claims about their particular brands of snake oil, but when one is challenging the onslaught of progress one has to use careful language:

the deterioration of the rainforest – through logging, fires and land clearance – has resulted in a decrease in forest transpiration and a lengthening of dry seasons. This might be one of the factors of the severe drought affecting south-east Brazil.

In fairness, this and other examples of cowardly deference to corporate masters might (!) be coming from the reporter, not the author of the study. In any case, the article has some interesting insights into how mainstream science has been separated from reality:

…science has become so fragmented. Atmospheric scientists don’t look at forests as much as they should and vice versa,” said Nobre, who wrote the report for a lay audience. [when you look into the abyss…?]

p.s. Of course, saying that it might be one of the factors, the author may have been thinking of HAARP weather weapons as another factor, but it’s unlikely!
